Please note: the manufacturer does not provide a warranty for these Hickory Staves once you start work on the bow. These Hickory Staves are a great way to learn basic bow building. The staves are floor tillered with the string grooves already in place. All you need to do is remove wood from the be...lly to adjust the poundage and final tillering, then stain and seal to your liking. Hickory is a great bow building wood due to its strength and flexibility. It's easy to work with, and takes stain and paint very well. Most of these staves will produce a bow in the 50 pound range at a 28" draw, but you can easily remove enough material to make a bow in the 40s. For a heavier bow, simply remove less wood. Once you have the bow at your preferred weight, simply sand and paint or stain it. These bow staves do not come with a shelf cut in, so you can decide for yourself whether you want a right handed or left handed bow. Or you can create an off-the-knuckle ambidextrous bow. It's all up to you! Click here for Floor Tillered Stave Instructions from Grayvn Archery. Junk...for beginners only.
These blanks/staves are junk made by Gravyn who is basically replacing Rudder Bows. The staves/blanks from Rudder Bows were perfect, these blanks from Gravyn are all off center/warped and the grain is not parallel to the back of the bow as it should be causing the limbs to twist as the string is pulled back. I do like the way Gravyn floor tillers the sticks, but the attention… read more to detail is missing and they are using the wrong quarter sawn lumber to make the sticks and they are not following the center line like they should. With a little mentorship, I think they are capable of producing some excellent staves like Rudder in the future.

This was a great buy! I came out with a 90lb bow @ 28". It took minimal work to shape it to my liking.
The rule of thumb is 10 grains per pound of bow weight. It's not recommended to go below 8 GPI.
It is 1 1/2" wide
Backing will increase the overall strength of the bow, but it is personal preference.
Yes you could make those additions to the blank.
The thickness is about 1 inch and width is about 1.5 inches.
The rule of thumb is 10 grains per pound of bow weight. It's not recommended to go below 8 GPI.
This is a board bow style.
The 85911 bow handle is cut with an offset in the handle with more detail , the 85909 is just a straight bow .
It is shaped more like an English longbow.
